• Nicole Kidman plans a return to the London stage later this year. The Moulin Rouge star made headlines when she stripped on stage for the controversial West End play The Blue Room last year. Now she plans to reteam with the play's director, Sam Mendes, who also directed the award-winning film American Beauty. Few details have emerged except that the show is a revival. To find time to do the play Kidman has had to withdraw from the planned film The Life of David Gale, which is being produced by Nicolas Cage.
• Jackie Chan's new action adventure Rush Hour 2 toppled Planet of the Apes from No 1 slot in the US box office charts this weekend, Variety reports. Chan's film took $66.8m in the first few days, while Planet of the Apes's takings slipped sharply to $28.5m.
• Ben Affleck, star of Pearl Harbor, is having treatment for alcohol abuse, Associated Press reports. The Oscar-winner has "decided that a fuller life awaits him without alcohol" according to his publicist. Ironically, Affleck played a recovering alcoholic in romantic drama Bounce last year.
• James Bond star Pierce Brosnan married long-term partner Keeley Shay Smith in County Mayo, Ireland, at the weekend but the nuptuals were strictly for guests' eyes only. An army of minders outnumbered guests after the couple signed an agreement with Hello! magazine to cover the service. There were even reports that the small church had been soundproofed to ensure secrecy. Brosnan and his new wife spent their first day of married life poring over 7,000 photographs to select 60 for the magazine to use.
• Can it be true that actor Jude Law has been taking lessons from Paul Daniels? Apparently Law asked the magician for help as he prepared for his role in The Road To Perdition. Law, who plays a hitman and cardsharp, studied videos of Daniels in action and even had a private tutorial to perfect his sleight of hand.
